The Dearborn Community Arts Council is a non-profit umbrella organization designed to assist local arts groups with their needs, including promotion, organization, meeting and teaching space, grant development etc.
At the present time, DCAC has about 40 member groups. Information pertinent to each group is provided. Additional information on any of the listed groups can be obtained by calling the DCAC office during regular business hours or by calling the particular organization directly where a number is included.

Dearborn Symphony Orchestra

The Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1961, has a highly acclaimed reputation for performing classical music. It presents five concerts during the season, plus a free holiday concert and a Cabaret Concert in late winter.

Women’s Association for the Dearborn Orchestral Society (WADOS)

Founded in 1962, the purpose of WADOS is to provide financial support for the Dearborn Symphony, to increase community knowledge and appreciation of music, and to provide educational opportunities for students. Its main fund-raiser is its annual Heritage Home Tour scheduled for the third Saturday in May.

Dance education in the subjects of ballet, tap, jazz, gymnastics and modeling. Home of Sickle’s Dance Company, a nonprofit youth performing arts group. Annual sponsorship of the Dearborn Dance Festival, which celebrates National Dance Week in Michigan. Sponsor of Miss Dearborn/ Dearborn Heights Scholarship Pageant, for young women 18-24 years old.

Dearborn Ballet Theatre Inc.

The Dearborn Ballet Theatre is a non-profit group based at the Noretta Dunworth School of Dance. Participation is by audition.

Full Circle Dance Company

The Full Circle Dance Company is the resident dance troupe at Henry Ford Community College. Participation is by audition.

Polish Alliance Dancers of Dearborn, PNA

The focus of this group is authentic Polish folk dancing for boys and girls ages 3-17. Instruction is given in dance and the Polish language and culture. The Polani Adult Group offers Polish dancing and culture for interested parties ages 18 and older. There is a yearly performance for the public every year in late April or early May.

PRCUA Tatry Dancers

This group is designed for children ages 3-15 to offer them instruction in Polish dance and the Polish heritage. Meets 5:45-10 p.m. Thursdays at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights.

Arab Theatrical Arts Guild (ATAG) was formed in late 1997 to promote theater in the Arab community of metro Detroit. It is designed to encourage participation as a performer, technical person and as an audience member.

Evoking a classic renaissance theatre in a modern environment, our main stage theatre will serve as home to many local arts organizations. The auditorium has ample wheelchair seating, elevators to all levels, and an amplified system for the hearing impaired. This 1,201 seat auditorium features the latest lighting and sound systems, and is fully supported by modern scenery and costume shops. The theatre is set to support the greatest professional demands while providing a friendly environment for our many local cultural arts programs..

Dearborn Heights Civic Theatre, founded in 1993, is open to everyone interested in theater. Shows are performed at the Berwyn Center, 26155 Richardson, in north Dearborn Heights. The group usually stages three shows, including one musical, per season.

Dearborn Youth Theatre is made up of students in the Youth Acting Classes sponsored by the Dearborn Recreation Department. Classes meet in fall and spring, but only those enrolled in the spring classes are involved in the production. A fee is charged to cover costs.

Henry Ford Community College has offered a wide variety of shows in recent years, attempting to eventually present one from almost every theater genre. Anyone may audition for a show, but cast members usually must sign up for appropriate courses that semester.

Players Guild of Dearborn

The Players Guild, founded in 1927, performs two musicals and three dramas during the regular season, plus a non-subscription show in the summer. The group also has a youth-theater arm, called the Guildlings, which stages an original children’s musical each year. Everyone is welcome to audition, but the cast must become members of the Players Guild.

West Side Theatre Project
