Abstract Information
History: The county was created in 1796. It initially covered 2 million square
miles, including much of Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio and small
parts of Illinois and Wisconsin. The boundaries changed several times over the
next 30 years until it finally was changed in 1826 to its current size in
southeastern Michigan.
Area: 615 square miles
