About the Board of Realtors
The Dearborn Area Board of Realtors was founded in 1926. It serves Dearborn,
Dearborn Heights and a small part of Inkster. It is because of this
three-community spread that the local board officially changed its name to the
Dearborn Area Board of Realtors to better identify the area it serves.
The territory covered by a local Board of Realtors is determined by the Michigan
Board of Realtors. The state board, in turn, is governed by the National Board
of Realtors.
The Dearborn Area Board of Realtors has 350 members. Its office is at 2350
Monroe in Dearborn.
Founding brokers of the local board were Louis W. Howe, L.R. Ritenour, Samuel D.
Lapham and Arthur W. Webber.
The founders’ creed was: “We are entrusted with the responsibility to promote
the welfare of the community and to be of service to its citizens.”
On the occasion of the Board’s 50th anniversary in 1976, brokers presented a
plaque to the Dearborn Board of Realtors with the following message: “We strive
to pass on, to those who follow us, an even stronger and healthier board which
will continue to serve our area and its people in the manner visualized by the
founding brokers.”
The local board was formed with the same principles as its parent organization,
the Michigan Board of Realtors: to transform the buying, selling and renting of
real estate from an image of “barter and trade” to that of a soundly organized
business of men and women known for integrity, competency and trustworthiness.
